So, yesterday I branched out and taught some lovely people how to use their cameras using manual functions rather than auto. I did my own little workshop. I hadn’t done this much before but I have always appreciated all of the other photographers that have poured knowledge into me and have helped me learn my camera and much much more. So, after I had some different clients and friends asking me to do a workshop, I decided to give it a shot….and….we had a BLAST! I found that I loved it. How fun to be able to teach something that I’m passionate about to other people! So, they learned how to use their fancy DSLR cameras off of that auto mode. We shot manual all day and learned a bunch together. Here are a few pictures of our sweet little models. Thank you Ella, Madi, and Emi! You were all so so sweet.
I have four new backdrops… I’m looking forward to playing around with them with your little ones, your bellies, etc. I usually take most of my pictures outside or with real simple backgrounds for newborns. But why not spice things up a bit! Here are two of my new ones. Look for other ones as I will post them from time to time on my blog.

When you book a photo session through derksen photography your initial session fee includes a proof book. The proof book is a spiral bound collection of 4×6 prints (a 4×6 of each photo that is presented in your online gallery). So, essentially, your session fee actually includes one copy of each picture in your gallery. What a deal! :) Below is a sample of what the proof books look like. The proof book will help you to see what the pictures would actually look like in print, rather than just on their computer screen before you make your print purchase. Why not develop a little collection of derksen photography proof books? :).
I’ve been photographing some graphic art for a designer who’s been a friend of mine for years. Dana Grogger is based in Orange County but can ship your custom designed creations anywhere. She is fabulous. You can check out her work here. I highly recommend using her for unique and beautiful wedding invitations.

Ok folks, I know it may seem a little bit crazy but it’s September now, so you really need to start thinking Christmas. I know, you’re thinking what? We just did back to school. I know, I know, but just go there with me for a sec. September is when you need to consider booking your fall photoshoots for Christmas cards and Christmas gifts. My grandma, my parents, all my family people love receiving photos of their loved ones (not to mention the little ones) for Christmas. So, look at your schedule and book some family shoots earlier rather than later. I am booking Sept, Oct, and Nov, but that’s it. The last day to order any Christmas cards or prints for Christmas is December 1st.

The Christmas cards this year are available in two sizes: 5×7 and 5×5. All cards are flat, double sided, and include envelopes. Folded cards are available upon request.
